MASSACHUSETTS / THE CARE PRIMER

Finding care in Massachusetts

Where can I look for care?

Look for a named person who can assess your health. Ask what kind of licence they hold, then check the state record.

Online or in a room?

Telehealth means care at a distance, through tools such as video, phone calls, or online interviews.

An in-person clinic offers a visit in the same room. Ask either kind of service how it handles tests, referrals, and follow-up. Start with the assessment you need.

How do I check a Massachusetts health professional?

As of September 30, 2026, the Board of Registration in Medicine licenses Massachusetts doctors.

The state offers a free doctor-profile search called FindMyDoctor. Match the full name before reading the record.

The doctor’s record may list punishment by the state medical board or a hospital for breaking their rules.

It may also list findings of guilt in criminal cases and money paid to people who claimed harm from the doctor’s care.

Read what the record says about each case. A payment listed there does not tell you the whole story.

A blank part of the record does not prove there were no problems. The record can show only what was reported to the state medical board.

What if the person is not a doctor?

Nurse practitioners and physician assistants are other kinds of health professionals who can assess patients.

The nursing board handles nurse licences; physician assistants have a separate Massachusetts licensing board.

Ask which record matches the person you will see. The doctor search is not a substitute for that check.

How do I check an out-of-state pharmacy and its claims?

Before a pharmacy based elsewhere can ship medicine here, it must hold a Massachusetts non-resident licence under the rules as of September 30, 2026.

Non-resident means the pharmacy is based elsewhere.

A compounded medicine is made for an order; calling it sterile means it contains no living germs.

As of September 30, 2026, a pharmacy outside the state that makes these shots needs a Massachusetts non-resident sterile-compounding licence.

If the maker is a facility that makes batches for clinics and hospitals, it needs a Massachusetts non-resident outsourcing facility registration instead.

That registration is the state’s record allowing that kind of maker to send these medicines here.

The ordinary out-of-state pharmacy licence alone does not cover this work.

Ask who makes the shot and which of these state records covers that maker. Use the pharmacy links in the source notes to check.

Can a badge settle the question?

The Federal Trade Commission says official-looking website seals and logos can be faked.

Use the record from the state board. Get two names to check: the pharmacy and the person who would write your prescription.
